This week we had a funny moment on our work from home iHubbub communication network aka Skype and I just felt I had to share it with you as we were busy with an email marketing campaign.

It all started as we were sending out our monthly interesting articles emailer (as a side note I hope you received yours ok?) and Paula came up with a great title for this particular email marketing campaign - Have you been caught speeding or stalking?

When many people imagine starting up their home business they only briefly consider what it will be like working at home alone. The idea of setting your own agenda and not having to put up with the sights and sounds of others in the office disturbing you may be one of the things that appeals most about the idea of working from home.

Listen up, I'm openly admitting this right here, right now. I am a to do list junkie. There, it's out in the open. I've come out of the closet. Shed my closest home business secret with more to come over the next few months ... and one more below.

Seriously, though, many busy home business entrepreneurs use a to do list to keep on top of the many tasks that need to be done when starting up a home based business, never mind to keep life and business tasks under control.

This week was my children’s school sports day, thankfully they are much more sporty than I ever was and actually enjoy it. It is my son’s favourite day of the year, along with dressing up on World Book Day so all in all nothing too much to worry about.

That is until the dreaded announcement of the parent’s races. This year the mum’s had a skipping race and the dad’s fought it out in a wheelbarrow race. I was keen to do a home office chair race - with my experience of racing office chairs while working at home, I just knew I'd win. Sadly, the idea didn't go down that well!

Anyway, much to my children’s embarrassment I entered the mum's skipping race and thankfully didn’t come last.

The school summer holidays have nearly arrived in my house, 10 sleeps to be precise and then 6 weeks of juggling.

And although I love having my children around, I do still need to work from home some of that time.

Finding freebies to help working from home has been an important part of my strategy! I don’t know about you but when I started my own home business I didn’t have much money to invest, so anyway I could save money I would.

Thankfully with all of the technology now available, lack of money is not a barrier to starting up on your own.

I still have a home business start-up mentality and if there is a way to do something for free, rather than paying for it, that is just as good if not better, then tI don’t know about you but when I started my own home business I didn’t have much money to invest in a fancy home office chairhat is the way I will choose.

One of the best ways to build your profile as a small home based business owner is to move in the right circles.

Business networking is especially important for home-based businesses and freelancing consultants. But it can be a slow process if you're not meeting up with the right people.

Circles could also mean different things to different people. Many social-media-hungry-business-onwers are now even looking at Google Hangouts and finding out who is lurking around those circles.

There are many things that unite the nation's army of home workers (the ability to take important calls whilst still wearing your pyjamas not the least of them!) but the biggest issue facing anybody who is trying to start up a home business is ... funding.

We all know that the current financial climate is not exactly inviting for small home-based businesses to borrow money, so I was really interested this week to learn more about the new trend in P2P (peer-to-peer) lending schemes.
