I have been working from home for the past 8 years, not quite sure where that time has gone, but the saying of time flies when you are having fun could ring true. I do love working in a home based business!

However, some days I can go without seeing anyone apart from when I drop the kids off at school to when I pick them up. So to keep me healthy and sane being a work from home mum I have started to become much more social.

Henry Ford may is said to have stated that "If I'd asked my customers, they would have said they wanted a faster horse."

Either way, I use this lovely saying when I teach workshops on the basics of Search Engine Optimisation. I refer to this saying when I explain about keywords and how to ensure you are using keywords wisely by placing yourself into your client or customers shoes to find your products.

Following the start up business show where I gave a talk recently on do-it-yourself SEO, I received a handwritten postcard through my door thanking me for all the help I had given out that day.

It was a sweet gesture and it got me thinking about how nice it is to receive something other than bllls and pizza delivery flyers through the door.

I'm sitting at my dining room table, trying to concentrate on my latest home working project when all I can hear is my biscuit tin calling me...

Does that sound familiar to you? When I worked in an office I found it easy to stay the right side of fit.

I walked to and from the bus stop every day (briskly when it was chilly!), took a bag full of healthy snacks to nibble on, went for a walk every lunchtime and drank nothing but water whilst I was there.

Then I started my freelance career working from home and realised that I was going to have to add proper exercise in to my already overly-busy day ... no commute, no enforced lunch hour and a well-stocked kitchen within arm's reach.

I don't know about you but recently I have noticed more and more mums that I know are starting their own home based business. The first sign was when conversations at the school gate changed from kid stuff to business stuff, and I can't imagine that my children's school is very different from most around the country.

These are not just stay at home mums, most that I know already have a part-time job and are looking at ways to boost their income, be their own boss and feel confident that they can ... and have started their own business.

Sound like you?

Freelancers, home businesses and jelly, what do they have in common? Quite a lot as it happens!

I am not talking jelly of the eating kind, instead it is jelly of the co-working kind and last week I found out it can be good for you as a start up business owner. Much better kind of jelly than the eating kind!

There are UK Jellies once a month all over the country, where people just like you and me who work from home go to work. You take your own work with you, get some work done and have a chat.

It really is that simple.

Here at iHubbub, we think the luxury of working wherever the mood takes us is one of the more attractive aspects of working for yourself while you work at home and listen to music.

The high street coffee shop is a popular alternative to the home office for many homeworkers, who find the pleasant ambient buzz of conversation boosts productivity. In fact, an academic study published in 2012 found the noise of a bustling cafe provided the perfect level of mild distraction to keep you focused.

Home Business Blogging has become a big thing and especially people who have built up a wide following and big online profile just because they have lots to say. And they blog about those things.

If you're gobby - you could join the ranks of new home business blogging entpreneurs. But what if you don't have a clue what the heck a blog is all about?

Simple Answer ...

A Blog is a great way of getting online in a flash. A blog is an abbreviated version of ‘weblog’, which is a term used to describe web sites that chronicle or log information. However, they can be, and often are, used as a website.

If you are going to set up a blog alongside your site, try and retain your brand. This example shows the Remote Employment brand reflected in a standard Blogger template. More about this in a tick.

I did a workshop at the Business Start Up Show last week and as usual I got mobbed afterwards with people who are starting up a business and many of them home business entrepreneurs.

When I was last doing a workshop for people who had come to learn about how to set up a website because they were starting their own home based business, I was chatting about working with developers to create a website, someone asked me what is IP and what do they do about it.

Let's quickly look at Intellectual Property Rights (IPR).

Basically an IPR lets people own the work they create. It could be the result from the creation of an idea, a brand, an invention, a design, a song or any intellectual creation, such as a website development or its design.

Intellectual Property can be owned, bought and sold, so ensure you own the rights to yours or you may come unstuck if you want to move to another development company down the line.
