When writing some of the blogs for iHubbub's Home Office Music Technology I checked out some interesting facts on the net about music and why people listen to music while working at home in their own home based business. Or in my case ... freelance consultancy.

When you start up a home based business the first thing on your mind, almost always, is how do you get a small business loan.

There are plenty things to be juggling: staffing, freelancing resources, marketing budgets, travelling expenses, advertising campaigns, PR people ... the list goes on and on. So what does one do about getting a start-up loan for funding their new business?

At iHubbub we like to keep our eye on the latest figures that may interest our self employed entrepreneurs, and today we bring you details of a government report into single person enterprises.

The annual Small Business Survey published at the end of May shows that starting up a home based business or small business is more popular than ever, and businesses with no employees (ie owned and run by one person) now account for 18 per cent of all UK private sector employment.

As a Freelance Music enthusiast and making my way into the music scene I find myself striving to find headphones that fit my "Bass heavy" needs. That may not be everyone's need when looking for a good pair of home office headsets.

You may only be after something to listen to so your other start-up business partners won't be distracted by your choice of music while you're working away on your business plans or freelance clients.

When it comes to checking out the music scene, I'm always up for plugging into home office music technology. Being a freelance DJ and music producer, I was keen to check out the latest music gadgets for home business entrepreneurs, whether they are into the music scene or just listening to music while working from home.

Okay, sometimes listening to music doesn't go with working hard on a new start up business, but that's not always the case.

Let's just say that every home based business owner and freelancers on the hop out and about working with mobile tools need them to be charged and pumped at all times.

That said ...

Can we all still understand the fundermentals of batteries or currents? I think now-days many people don't realise the full adaption from battery powered devices previous and to date ...

The understanding and use of electricity is largely responsible for the advanced technology that we enjoy today: electric light, heat, digital computers, television, music on CD, DVD video, radar, microwave ovens, cell phones, and on and on and on.

If you've got a shed at the bottom of your garden the chances are it's full of odds and ends: lawnmowers, barbecues and children's play equipment.

Askar Sheibani, founder and CEO of IT and telecoms repair company Comtek used his home business brain to convert a shed into the perfect place to start a home business.

In 1989 Askar realised that there was a real need for somebody who could repair simple pieces of IT equipment, such as modems - which at the time cost an exorbitant amount to replace.

He approached the banks for their financial advice on how to start up a home-based business, but they obviously weren't so forward-thinking as Askar, and several of them turned down his request for a loan, claiming that his idea wasn't viable.

I'd love to see their faces now then!

Here at iHubbub we're all about keeping home working fit; believe us when we say we know how easy it is to let this slide when your home office is only feet away from the tempting foodstuffs you can quickly knock up in the kitchen, and your commute is only from your bedroom to your computer!

So I was really interested in finding out more about fitness entrepreneur Paul Mort and his journey from starting a home business in the UK to now working beneath the sunny skies of Marbella!

We are oh-so-jealous Paul!

Starting a home business is hard work and time-consuming in its own right (although definitely worth the slog I hear all you start-up business entrepreneurs shout from the comfort of your home office!) but getting a start-up going whilst you're still working in your day job? When do you sleep?!

Well, if your name is Charlotte Mills then your answer in the early years would be 'not often!'

Charlotte and her husband Andrew run a business called Nephria which sells luxury skin care products containing pure ground Jade, excavated from a mine in South Korea.
