Marbled Fruity Porridge

Here's a good old fashioned way to get you through, not only long cold winter days, but some of those very challenging days when you start up a new business venture and face all sorts of knocks downs. Da, dah, oats to the rescue!

Enjoy all the health benefits of oats (a great source of carbohydrate and protein) and ensure you get some of your 5-a-day fruit and veg intake with this tasty take on traditional porridge. 

The low glycaemic index (GI) of the oats means that the nutrients in this recipe will be absorbed and digested more slowly, releasing energy slowly - helping you feel fuller for longer and reducing the likelihood of energy dips throughout your working morning.

Prep time: 2 minutes

Cook time: 5 minutes

Serves 1

  • 50g porridge oats
  • 350ml semi skimmed milk
  • 1 tbsp fruit compote or puree
  • Fresh fruits such as raspberries

Total cost: £0.95
Cost per serving: £0.95

Place the oats and milk in a small saucepan and bring to the boil, simmer for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Stir through the puree to create a marbled effect. Top with fresh fruit to serve.

Hints and Tips

Try a variety of fruit purees or compotes and mix and match with your favourite fruits and
what is in season.  For extra sweetness add a little more fruit puree or compote.
